The Musei Reali di Torino (Royal Museums of Turin) form a vast complex at the heart of the city’s old center, gathering the principal historic residences and collections of the House of Savoy. At its core is the former Royal Palace, surrounded by attractions including the Royal Armoury, the Royal Library, the Galleria Sabauda painting gallery, the Archaeological Museum, and the Royal Gardens. Visitors explore ceremonial palace apartments furnished with original tapestries, mirrors, Murano glass chandeliers and inlaid floors, offering an immersive sense of court life from the baroque era to the kings of Italy. The Royal Armoury dazzles with one of Europe’s most important collections of arms and armor, while the Royal Library preserves Leonardo da Vinci’s celebrated self-portrait and drawings (on rotation). Galleria Sabauda features masterworks by Van Dyck, Rubens, Mantegna, Botticelli, and Bellini, and the Archaeological Museum displays finds from prehistoric and Roman Piedmont.
With so much to see, many visitors devote a half- or even full day; you can buy a combined ticket or focus on selected sections if time is limited. On fine days, don’t miss a walk in the formal Royal Gardens overlooking Piazza Castello. Audio guides and guided tours are available in multiple languages, unlocking the complex history of Savoy rule and Italy’s unification. Culture-lovers shouldn’t miss this – it’s Turin’s top paid attraction and one of Italy’s most significant palace-museum ensembles.
