Opening Hours
Lift operating dates and daily hours vary by season. In summer, the Ortisei–Furnes–Seceda lifts usually run from late May or June through early October, with first departures in the morning and last rides back in late afternoon. Winter hours are aligned with the ski season. Always confirm the current timetable on the official site.
The Seceda cableways link the village of Ortisei in Val Gardena with one of the Dolomites’ most photographed viewpoints. From the summit plateau of Seceda, dramatic limestone peaks of the Odle/Geisler group rise in a serrated wall above rolling alpine meadows, creating a landscape that has become an Instagram icon. The lift system typically involves an initial gondola or cable car to Furnes and a second stage to the upper station near the summit. Buying a ticket for the cableways saves several hours of strenuous climbing and opens up the area to day trippers, families and casual hikers. Once on top, you can choose between short viewpoint strolls, loop hikes along the ridge and longer one way walks down to other villages or mountain huts. On clear days the panorama takes in much of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage area, and the lighting changes throughout the day as shadows move across the rock faces. Tickets can be purchased at the valley station or online through the official website, where you’ll also find combination passes with other Val Gardena lifts and information on special sunrise or sunset openings when offered. Because summer weather in the mountains can be unpredictable, checking the forecast and the lift status page on the morning of your visit is important. Expect cooler temperatures on top than in Ortisei and bring layers, sturdy footwear and sun protection. For many travelers who are not skiing, riding the Seceda cableways is the easiest way to experience classic Dolomites scenery on a day trip from Bolzano or as part of a longer stay in Val Gardena. It is a paid experience but one that delivers maximum visual impact for the time and effort involved.
