The Naples airport Alibus stop is outside the arrivals terminal on the road serving the terminal building, only a short walk from the exit. After collecting your bags, stay on the ground floor, follow Arrivi and Uscita, then turn right outside and follow signs for Alibus or the bus stops. Do not automatically follow signs for P Bus or Parcheggio Autobus. That separate coach area is used by buses heading to destinations outside Naples.
For the city shuttle, the name that matters is Alibus. It runs directly from Capodichino to Piazza Garibaldi for Napoli Centrale, then continues through the port area to Molo Beverello.
Step by step from baggage claim to the Alibus
- Collect your luggage and remain on the arrivals level. You do not need to go upstairs toward Departures.
- Buy a ticket before leaving if you want to get that job out of the way. Naples Airport has Alibus ticket machines on the ground floor of the arrivals area.
- Follow signs marked “Uscita” or “Exit.” The taxi rank is also outside arrivals, so seeing taxis does not mean you have taken the wrong exit.
- Turn right after leaving the terminal and continue along the airport access road. Look specifically for Alibus signage and the dedicated bus bay.
- Check the bus before boarding. The vehicle should clearly be operating as Alibus, the ANM airport service to central Naples and the port.
The official Naples Airport bus page confirms that the Alibus stops are on the access road serving the terminal. This is different from the airport’s P Bus area beside parking P1, which is used by many suburban and regional coaches.
Do not confuse Alibus with the P Bus coach area
This is the most useful distinction to understand before you walk out of the terminal. Naples Airport serves several types of buses, and signs containing the word “bus” do not necessarily lead to the city shuttle.
- Alibus: for Napoli Centrale/Piazza Garibaldi and the Naples port.
- P Bus / Parcheggio Autobus: the coach parking area used by services to destinations elsewhere in Campania, such as some Sorrento, Salerno, and regional routes.
- Taxi: the official taxi rank is directly outside the arrivals area.
If you find yourself walking toward a large coach parking area and cannot see anything marked Alibus, ask airport staff, “Dov’è la fermata Alibus per Napoli centro?” That means, “Where is the Alibus stop for central Naples?”
Which Alibus stop should you use in Naples?
From the airport, the bus serves the city in this order:
- Piazza Garibaldi, for Napoli Centrale railway station and the Garibaldi transport interchange.
- Immacolatella / Porta di Massa, inside the port area and useful for some ferry services.
- Molo Angioino / Beverello, beside the Stazione Marittima and close to Molo Beverello and Piazza Municipio.
If you have an onward Trenitalia or Italo train, get off at Piazza Garibaldi. Napoli Centrale is the mainline railway station above the wider Garibaldi transport complex. If you are heading to Capri, Ischia, Procida, or another destination by sea, do not automatically get off at the railway station. Check which Naples pier your ferry uses. Porta di Massa and Molo Beverello serve different types of sailings, and being at the wrong one can mean an inconvenient transfer through the port.
Buying and validating the ticket
ANM currently lists the Alibus fare at €5. Tickets can be bought at the airport machines, through supported mobile ticketing channels, online, or on board. Contactless Tap&Go is also listed as a ticketless payment option.
A paper ticket is not finished business simply because you bought it. ANM instructs passengers to validate the ticket as soon as they board and keep it until they leave the bus. Look for the validator after boarding and insert or present the ticket as required.
There is also an integrated Alibus ticket valid for 90 minutes from first validation, allowing the airport journey plus eligible urban transport within its validity conditions. Do not assume an ordinary Naples transport pass or Campania Artecard automatically covers the airport shuttle. ANM specifically treats Alibus as a special service. What the trip is like with luggage
You keep your bags with you rather than checking them as you would on a long-distance coach. That makes the service straightforward with a normal suitcase, but busy airport departures can become crowded.
Have your ticket or payment method ready before the bus arrives, board without stopping in the doorway, and move your suitcase away from the doors once inside. Keep valuables in a closed bag rather than an outside suitcase pocket, particularly while people are boarding and leaving at Piazza Garibaldi.
If you have several large cases, a stroller, or enough luggage that you cannot comfortably control it yourself, compare the bus with a taxi before committing. Saving a few euros is less useful if you then have to wrestle three suitcases through Garibaldi and onto another train or metro.
Wheelchairs and reduced mobility
Naples Airport states that Alibus vehicles are equipped to carry wheelchair users. The airport also has a PRM assistance call point near the Alibus area. If you have pre-arranged airport assistance, staff can assist arriving passengers through baggage claim and onward toward the bus stop, taxi rank, or other arrival point.
For a trip involving several transfers after the airport, check the next stage as carefully as the shuttle itself. A bus being accessible does not guarantee that every lift or station entrance later in the journey will be operating.
How long does Alibus take?
The airport publishes an approximate journey time of 15 minutes to Piazza Garibaldi and about 35 minutes to the port. Treat those as normal traffic estimates, not connection guarantees. Naples road traffic can lengthen the journey.
If you are connecting to a reserved train, ferry, tour, or other departure, add time for baggage reclaim, walking to the stop, waiting for the bus, traffic, and finding the correct platform or pier after you arrive. A timetable showing a 15-minute bus ride does not mean a flight landing 45 minutes before your train creates a comfortable connection.
Early flights and late arrivals
Alibus operates every day, but first and last departures can change. If your flight lands very late or you need to leave for the airport before dawn, check the current ANM information on the day before travel rather than relying on an old screenshot or a timetable copied onto a booking site.
For a late arrival, remember that the relevant time is when you actually reach the bus stop, not the scheduled landing time. Passport control where applicable, a delayed baggage belt, and waiting for oversized luggage can easily use the margin you thought you had.
If the final shuttle has gone, use the official taxi rank outside arrivals rather than accepting an unsolicited ride from someone approaching passengers inside or beside the terminal. Naples Airport also closes to the general public overnight for part of the night, apart from exceptional delayed-flight situations, so planning to wait inside until morning is not a reliable fallback.
If you cannot find the bus
First, stop following generic coach signs and look specifically for Alibus. If you see P Bus, Autolinee, or rows of long-distance coaches, confirm that you have not walked into the regional bus area.
If a bus is waiting but you are unsure, ask, “Questo è l’Alibus per Piazza Garibaldi?” If you want the port, ask for “Molo Beverello”. Those place names are more useful than asking vaguely for “the city centre.”
If you accidentally miss Piazza Garibaldi while on board, do not panic and do not jump off somewhere unfamiliar. The next scheduled stops are in the port area. Check your location, get off at an official stop, and work out the return from there. You can also organize the rest of your trip around the station, port, and your Naples accommodation before arrival so you already know which stop you need.

The key move at Capodichino is simple: leave Arrivals, turn right, and look for Alibus rather than following every sign containing the word “bus.” Once you are at the correct bay, the rest is much easier: Piazza Garibaldi for the main railway station, or stay aboard for the port.
