Opening Hours

Operating days and hours vary by season and weather; cable cars typically run from morning to mid or late afternoon with first and last departures published on the official site. The Skyway may close for maintenance or due to adverse conditions, so checking the online timetable and buying dated tickets in advance is essential.

Skyway Monte Bianco is a futuristic cable car system that carries visitors from the valley floor near Courmayeur to Punta Helbronner at 3,466 meters on the Italian side of Mont Blanc. The rotating cabins and fully glazed stations are designed to make the ascent itself a spectacle: as you rise, the cabin slowly rotates 360 degrees, revealing views over the Aosta Valley, the glaciers of the Mont Blanc massif, and distant peaks like the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa. The journey is split into two stages. The first runs from the Entrèves base station to the mid mountain Pavillon du Mont Fréty station, which has restaurants, exhibition spaces and a high altitude botanical garden in summer. The second stage continues up to Punta Helbronner, where panoramic terraces hang above the glacier and glass walled interior spaces frame jagged peaks at eye level. On clear days, you can step outside to feel the fierce alpine air and look across to the Aiguille du Midi and the French lift system. Due to the altitude and exposure, weather can change quickly; clouds can obscure views and wind can force temporary closure even on otherwise fine days. The official website posts daily operating status and webcams—always check these before travel, especially if you are coming from further away. Tickets are relatively expensive but include access to both stations and viewing areas; special packages may combine the lift with meals or other experiences. Allow half a day for the excursion, including time at both stations. Warm layers, sunglasses, and sun protection are essential even in summer, and visitors with heart or breathing issues should talk to their doctor before ascending to high altitude. For many travelers, Skyway Monte Bianco is the single most dramatic paid experience in the Italian Alps—a chance to stand almost level with Europe’s highest peaks without mountaineering skills.
