Opening Hours
The Brescia Roman Archaeological Park and Santa Giulia Museum have seasonal opening hours managed by Fondazione Brescia Musei. Generally, the schedule is Tuesday to Sunday 10:00–18:00 in winter and 10:00–19:00 in summer, with Monday (except holidays) closed. Last entry is typically 45–60 minutes before closing. For current and exact opening times for both Santa Giulia and the Roman archaeological park, always check the official site, as holiday schedules and special closures may apply.
Brescia’s UNESCO-listed archaeological and museum complex unites the remains of the ancient Roman city of Brixia with the vast monastic ensemble of Santa Giulia, providing one of the most layered heritage experiences in northern Italy. The Santa Giulia Museum is housed in the former Benedictine monastery of San Salvatore and Santa Giulia. Its churches, cloisters and refectory create a dramatic setting for collections spanning from prehistoric artifacts to medieval goldsmithing and Renaissance frescoes.
The museum path leads you through Roman domus with original mosaicked floors found under the monastery, as well as early medieval Lombard spaces and later Baroque additions. Highlights include the gilded bronze Winged Victory (a remarkable Roman statue and Brescia’s symbol), medieval crosses, intricate altarpieces, and dramatic wall frescoes.
A single ticket usually provides access to both Santa Giulia and the nearby Brixia Archaeological Park, where you can explore the Capitolium temple, theatre and ancient forum. Walkways and explanatory panels help reconstruct the layout of the Roman city, and the combination of open-air ruins and monastery interiors offers interest in all seasons.
Fondazione Brescia Musei manages the site, offering exhibitions, educational programs, combined passes and handy resources like audio guides and guided tours. English information is available throughout. The atmosphere shifts between sacred, monumental, and everyday urban life, making this a compelling stop for both Roman history enthusiasts and art lovers.
