Opening Hours
Palazzo Pitti museums and the Boboli Gardens keep different but overlapping daytime hours, generally from morning to late afternoon. Some sections close on Mondays or specific holidays-check the Uffizi’s official timetable before visiting.
Across the Arno from Florence’s historic core, the vast Palazzo Pitti was once the main residence of the Medici grand dukes and later the Savoy royal family. Today it houses several museums, including the Palatine Gallery with its dense hanging of Renaissance and Baroque paintings in gilt frames, the Royal Apartments, and the Gallery of Modern Art. Behind the palace, the Boboli Gardens climb the hillside in a sequence of terraces, fountains, formal hedges, and shaded avenues with views back over the city. Statues, grottoes, and even a small outdoor amphitheater dot the grounds, making this a good place to combine art with fresh air. Tickets can be bought separately or as part of combined passes that also include the Uffizi. Because the complex is large, allow at least half a day if you want to explore both palace and gardens at a relaxed pace; in summer, early morning visits are cooler and less crowded.
