Opening Hours
The cathedral, rooftop terraces, archaeological area, and museum each have slightly different hours, generally spanning daytime from morning to early evening. Timed tickets and seasonal schedules are published on the official site.
Milan’s cathedral is one of Europe’s largest churches and a masterpiece of flamboyant Gothic architecture, famous for its forest of marble spires and statues. Inside, soaring columns frame long aisles, stained glass windows filter colored light and a vast nave leads to richly decorated chapels and the main altar. Many visitors opt for combined tickets that include access to the archaeological area beneath the floor and to the Duomo Museum in nearby Palazzo Reale. The standout experience, however, is the rooftop: elevators and stairs bring you up among flying buttresses and pinnacles where you can walk along terraces high above the square. On clear days you may glimpse the Alps on the horizon. Security screening at the entrance can create lines, so arrive with a bit of extra time and avoid carrying large bags. Dress codes are enforced and certain areas may close during religious services or bad weather, so check schedules before you go.
