🇮🇹 Turin 101: A Local’s Guide 🏛✨
📌 Bookmark this for when you’re in Torino.
Here’s how we do it 👇
☕ First rule: order “un caffè” — that’s an espresso, nothing else. If you want to blend in, try a bicerin (espresso + chocolate + cream, layered since 1763). We don’t stir it.
🍝 On the table you’ll usually find grissini breadsticks. For a proper meal: agnolotti del plin, tajarin, or vitello tonnato. In winter, nothing beats bagna càuda with friends. Markets? Porta Palazzo is the city’s pantry — go in the morning when it’s loud, messy, and alive.
🚋 Getting around is easy: one metro line, a ton of trams, and tickets that last 100 minutes (incl. 1 metro ride). Or just walk under the porticoes — they cover 18 km, so rain or shine you’re fine.
🍷 Aperitivo is serious business here. Order a drink in San Salvario and you’ll get small plates that could almost be dinner. Want vermouth? It was invented here — taste it at Casa Martini or the Carpano Museum.
⛰ When we want out of the city:
– Reggia di Venaria for royal grandeur
– Sacra di San Michele for epic views
– Langhe wine hills for Barolo weekends
– For peace → Lake Orta is our slow spot
💡 Quick tips we always tell visitors:
– Get the Torino+Piemonte Card if you’re hitting museums.
– Validate your ticket (checks happen).
– Don’t drive into ZTL zones unless you like €100+ fines.
– Drink from the toret (bull-head fountains) — it’s safe.
Turin isn’t loud about its charm. It lets you discover it slowly — and that’s how we like it.
