Do not plan to leave Ravello at sunset and simply see what bus turns up. The Ravello return bus to Amalfi is SITA Sud line 5110, and the current summer 2026 schedule includes service well after dark, including a daily 21:30 departure. The safer approach is to check the official timetable for your exact date, buy or activate your ticket before shops close, and reach the central stop before your intended bus. If you need another bus from Amalfi, that onward departure, not the last service out of Ravello, is your real cutoff.
Do not memorize one โlast busโ time
SITA changes its Amalfi Coast schedules seasonally. Its current timetable page lists line 5110, Scala-Ravello-Amalfi, with the summer timetable valid through 13 September 2026. After that date, the times can change again. Use the official SITA Sud timetable page and open the current PDF for line 5110 rather than relying on an old screenshot saved from a blog or social post.
There is one particularly useful current evening service: SITA added a 21:30 Ravello to Amalfi departure running every day from 15 June 2026. The current table also contains other evening movements depending on the route pattern and day category, which is exactly why simply scanning for the latest number beside โRavelloโ can be misleading.
Treat the final service of the night as an emergency option, not as the bus you intend to catch. Your preferred departure should leave enough room for a later recovery, especially if you have a hotel, train, ferry, or second bus waiting at the other end.
How to read the 5110 timetable without choosing the wrong bus
The SITA PDF looks intimidating because line 5110 has branches involving Scala, Sambuco and Pontone, and Ravello appears more than once in the table. Use the directional heading Scala (Frazioni) – Ravello – Amalfi for the trip downhill toward Amalfi. Then trace the same vertical column from the Ravello entry to the Amalfi arrival time.
The letters above the timetable matter just as much as the clock times:
- F means feriale, running Monday to Saturday.
- H means festiva, for Sundays and public holidays.
- G means giornaliera, running every day.
A surprisingly common mistake is reading F as โFriday.โ It does not mean Friday. If you are travelling on Sunday, a late departure marked F is not your bus. The current official PDF prints the legend at the top of the page.
Because the route has branches, also check where the bus is actually going before stepping aboard. A simple โAmalfi?โ to the driver is enough. Do not assume that every SITA vehicle waiting around Ravello is about to descend directly to Amalfi.
Where to wait in Ravello
The central SITA stop used by most visitors is on Via Giovanni Boccaccio, just outside Ravello’s pedestrian historic centre. From Piazza Duomo, follow the passage toward Via Giovanni Boccaccio and the road-level arrival and parking area. You should not be waiting for a public bus inside Piazza Duomo itself.
If you have spent the afternoon at Villa Cimbrone, return toward Piazza Duomo first rather than following a tempting downhill staircase that appears to point toward the coast. From Villa Rufolo, Piazza Duomo is already beside you, so continue toward Via Giovanni Boccaccio from there.
There is an extra wrinkle in 2026: SITA has posted a notice temporarily suspending its stop on Via della Marra near the Galleria Nuova because of roadworks, in both directions, until regular road conditions are restored. Do not walk to a secondary map pin there without checking the latest SITA service notices.
Buy the ticket before dinner, not while the bus is arriving
Have a valid ticket before you depend on an evening departure. SITA’s current list of authorised sellers includes Al Vicolo Srl, Via Roma 9, Ravello, but SITA does not publish that shop’s daily closing hours on its ticket-office page. Buying earlier in the day removes one unnecessary problem after dinner or a concert.
Tickets are also available through the UnicoCampania system. For electronic tickets, complete the required check-in when boarding. A paper ticket must be validated at the start of the journey and kept until you finish travelling. SITA states that if the validating equipment is unavailable or broken, the ticket should be manually marked with the date and time.
Do not rely on having enough time to find a retailer after the bus has appeared. Evening Ravello is a much nicer place when you are deciding between gelato flavours rather than sprinting around asking โDove posso comprare un biglietto SITA?โ
Your real last bus may leave from Amalfi
If Amalfi is your hotel base, the calculation is simple: get downhill and walk from the Amalfi bus terminal to your accommodation.
If you are staying in Positano, Praiano, Sorrento, Minori, Maiori or Salerno, you have a two-stage trip. In that case, work backwards from the last usable departure from Amalfi.
For example, the current summer 2026 Amalfi-Sorrento table shows later westbound buses at 21:30 and 22:30 marked F, meaning Monday to Saturday, while the 21:00 departure is marked G and therefore runs daily. A passenger leaving Ravello at 21:30 obviously cannot also board a 21:30 bus from Amalfi. On a Monday to Saturday there may be a later nominal connection, but on a Sunday or holiday the evening pattern is different.
This is the part that catches people. Reaching Amalfi successfully does not mean you can still reach every other town on the coast.
For destinations east of Amalfi, such as Minori, Maiori or Salerno, check line 5120 separately. For Positano and Sorrento, check the Amalfi-Positano-Sorrento section. Never assume the two timetables have been designed around your connection. SITA’s own transport conditions state that schedules can change and that the company does not accept responsibility for missed connections caused by delays or other circumstances.
Use an earlier bus when the connection matters
A good evening plan has three levels: the bus you intend to catch, another service that can still get you where you are going, and a taxi fallback.
If you have a dinner reservation in Amalfi, leave Ravello with plenty of margin. If you have a train from Salerno or Sorrento later that night, leave considerably earlier. If the connection is to a flight, an important long-distance train or the last transport of the night, do not build the itinerary around a minute-perfect sequence of coastal buses.
The Amalfi Coast road is narrow and delays propagate quickly. A timetable is a departure plan, not a promise that every intermediate bus will arrive to the minute.
What to do if your bus is late or does not appear
First, confirm that you are at the correct stop and that the departure applies to your day category. Check SITA’s notices for road closures, festivals and temporary stop changes. Then watch the destination of arriving buses and ask the driver โVa ad Amalfi?โ, meaning โDoes this go to Amalfi?โ
If you are approaching the point where missing another bus would strand you, switch to the backup rather than waiting indefinitely. Ravello has taxi services, and hotels and restaurants can usually call one for you. Ask for the price before leaving if it has not already been agreed: โQuanto costa fino ad Amalfi?โ

Do not make walking down the mountain your emergency plan after dark. Ravello’s pedestrian routes toward the coast involve long stairways, steep lanes and sections where lighting is less useful than it is in the town centre. After a Ravello concert or festival, recheck the stop
Event nights deserve extra caution because the same streets used by buses can be affected by municipal traffic orders. SITA has already altered line 5110 during Ravello events in 2026 when Via Giovanni Boccaccio was closed. A timetable can therefore remain valid while the exact boarding point temporarily changes.
Before going into a long concert, dinner or evening event, check the SITA notices once and save the relevant timetable on your phone. Check again when you come out if there has been a major event or road closure. A screenshot also helps if your data connection becomes temperamental.
A simple evening plan that is hard to break
- Check line 5110 on SITA’s official site on the day of travel.
- Confirm whether your departure is marked F, H or G.
- If you need another bus from Amalfi, check that timetable separately and work backwards.
- Buy or activate your ticket before shops begin closing.
- Return to the Via Giovanni Boccaccio stop before your chosen departure.
- Ask โAmalfi?โ before boarding if the destination is unclear.
- Keep a later usable service or taxi as your recovery plan.
If Ravello is only one part of a longer coast day, it helps to keep the transport sequence, hotel and backup options together while you organize the rest of your trip. Still verify the final bus times with SITA, since seasonal schedules and municipal road restrictions can change after an itinerary has been planned.
The key is not finding the absolute latest possible departure from Ravello. It is choosing an evening bus that still leaves you somewhere useful if the first plan fails. Once the final connection from Amalfi has gone, a beautifully late dinner in Ravello can become a considerably more expensive taxi ride.
