Opening Hours

Generally open every day from morning until late afternoon or evening, with extended hours in peak season. Entry is via timed tickets or combined passes with other St Mark’s Square museums; check the official calendar for exact times on the official website.

Facing the Venetian lagoon beside St Mark’s Basilica, the Gothic-Renaissance Doge’s Palace was the seat of Venice’s government and the residence of its elected ruler. Inside, you explore grand staircases, courtyard arcades and ornate council chambers where the Republic’s complex political system once operated. The ceilings are covered with gilded carvings and canvases by Tintoretto and Veronese, including the immense Paradise in the Great Council Hall. A classic visit continues over the enclosed Bridge of Sighs into the grim stone prisons, a vivid contrast to the splendor of the state rooms. Tickets can be bought alone or as part of the combined Musei di Piazza San Marco pass, which also covers the Correr Museum and other nearby sites. Because group tours and cruise visitors arrive in waves, early morning or late afternoon entries tend to feel calmer. Allow at least two hours if you enjoy art and architecture.
