Italy strike dates to watch in September 2026 🇮🇹🚆✈️🚌

Traveling around Italy this September? Save this.

Important: a strike listing does NOT mean every service is cancelled. It means delays, reduced service or timetable changes are possible, so check your exact operator and journey.

🚌 Sept 4: Genoa local transport
AMT Genova action during the middle of the day.

🚌 Sept 5: Venice-area ATVO buses
Services not guaranteed 16:00–20:00. Important for airport/coastal buses. ATVO is not ACTV, so this does not automatically mean vaporetti are affected.

🚆 Sept 7–8: biggest rail disruption window
Main national rail action runs about 21:18 Sept 7 to 21:17 Sept 8, with overlapping railway strikes. Avoid tight flight/cruise connections and check your exact train against guaranteed-service lists.

✈️ Sept 11: Olbia + Cagliari airport services

✈️ Sept 13: Rome, Florence, Pisa + Cagliari airports
Security, handling and airport-service strikes are listed. This is not “all airlines on strike,” but queues, baggage delays and flight disruption are possible.

🚌 Sept 15: biggest local transport day
Florence has the strongest concentration, with bus + tram action. Also watch Prato, Pisa, Naples, Ravenna and ATVO routes.

Before travel, check the MIT strike calendar, Trenitalia/Italo/Trenord, ENAC + your airline, local transport operator and airport website.

Re-check everything 24–48h before departure. Strikes can change, be reduced or be cancelled.

I visited the Giardini Reali at Palazzo Reale in Turin today, and this is how visitors are told it’s time to leave.

This is the kind of sound we associate with emergencies and danger. And I genuinely don’t understand why this is considered appropriate in 2026.

What about people who are sensitive to loud or sudden sounds? They don’t warn you about this.

And what about the birds, squirrels and other animals living in the gardens? And dogs visiting the garden?

The irony is that the Giardini Reali’s own rules tell visitors not to disturb the animals, while Musei Reali says accessibility includes overcoming sensory barriers.

There are normal ways to close a garden. A spoken announcement. Staff asking people to head towards the exit. A gentle audio warning. Signs explaining when clearing begins.

So, @museirealitorino why is a siren still your chosen way of clearing the Giardini Reali?

And has its impact on visitors with sensory sensitivities and on the animals living in the gardens, ever actually been considered?

Because after visiting today, I think this policy deserves a rethink.

San Bernardino alle Ossa — a small chapel where the walls are lined with human bones, arranged here since the 17th century. Macabre, beautiful, unsettling… and somehow incredibly peaceful.

Italy is very good at reminding you that beauty doesn’t always have to be comfortable.

What to do if you miss a train in Italy 🚆

The worst move is panic-buying another ticket before checking the one you already have.

A regional ticket, Frecciarossa Base fare, Italo Flex ticket and railway-caused missed connection can all have completely different solutions. Even a one-hour rescue window can make the difference between being rebooked and paying again.

Screenshot the delay, find station staff and check the official fare conditions before boarding another reserved train. 🎟️

How to read Italy accommodation listings before you book

An Italian accommodation listing can be completely accurate and still leave out the detail that determines whether the room works for you.

“Elevator available” does not mean there are no steps. “Air-conditioning included” does not mean you control it. “Double or twin” may describe a preference rather than a guaranteed bed setup. And 24-hour building access does not automatically mean you can arrive for the first time at midnight. ⚠️

Before paying, ask the property to confirm the details for your exact room category and travel dates.

Copy and send this:

“Can you please confirm in writing the exact bed arrangement, whether there is a step-free route from the street to the room, whether guest-controlled cooling will be active on our dates, and the latest guaranteed check-in time if our transport is delayed?”

For the CIN, copy the complete code from the listing and check it through Ricerca CIN at bdsr.ministeroturismo.gov.it. A valid result confirms that the code exists, it is not a quality or fraud guarantee.

Save this before booking your accommodation in Italy. ✅
